NYST Pig Roast

Every year, New York Safety Track closes out the season with a famous Pig Roast, an upstate bacchanal to celebrate another season of riding motorcycles with the whole community.

Ducati New York Track Experience Round 2

After getting rained out for Ducati New York's first Track Experience of the year... we got rained out again.  :(
Albert showed up with his brand new V4 Corsa (below), and Jerry on his 1299.
It was sunny out for a bit, but mixed with torrential thunderstorms that kept the track all wet.
Dave took out his multistrada, prepping it with his wife's help!
And Jessie took out (and I think crashed) his old Multistrada.
Tommy was NOT amused by the rain.
But that was kinda the mood; we were all raring to go
... but rain kinda dampened the atmosphere.
 Lyndon had some fun...
but there was little that could cheer the spirits of poor old Tommy Naples.
Still pretty fun to hang out with friends though,
 as Brian changed Tommy's tire.
And the prettiest bikes from Charlies Chop Shop stayed under the tent for most of the day.

NYST with the Gotham Boys

Whelp, I'm back at the track again, with my buddies Jason, Tommy, Craig, Web and Brian...

Ladies Invitational Track Day at NYST

I've been up at the track all weekend, but today is was put together to bring women (who might otherwise not venture) out to the track, for a day of instruction and track time.

Late July at New York Safety Track Day 2

Tomorrow is our friend Melissa's Ladies Invitational Track Day, but today I'm spending the day with my boys.

Late July at New York Safety Track

Las Vegas was fun, but I was itching to get back to the track.  I'm also having my floors redone (for the second time in as many years, as it wasn't done right the first time), so I have no home to come back to.  Guess I'll just go straight to the track!
So, my girlfriend picked me up in the morning at Newark airport from a redeye from Vegas, and we found a park (which turned out to be Liberty National Park), threw down a blanket like the (temporarily) homeless people we were, and took a nap till I had to drive to La Guardia a few hours later to drop her off for a flight for a work trip.
Then I turned around and headed north towards Harpersfield to New York Safety Track!!

The 2019 Track Season

It's been a long winter, but I'm finally ready for the track!

How to pack for a motorcycle track day

Racing motorcycles is a ton of fun, but requires a good bit of preparation.  It's awful to wait for weeks for a track day, then drive several hours to NJMP or NYST to find that you've forgotten something essential important or essential.  I've put together the following pack list to remind myself what to bring along to a track day, but maybe you might find it helpful as well.

Track Day Basics

A bike: You should prep your bike and make sure it's running smoothly BEFORE leaving for the track.  If not, you'll fail tech inspection, and not be able to ride.  Most riders safety wire parts of the bike that might come loose during a track day, like an oil filter and bolts, which especially if you ride a twin (like a Ducati), often untorque due to vibration.

Riding gear: Most racetracks require full leathers (at least zipped together), and though you can rent gear, it won't fit nearly as well as something of your own, and I highly recommend adding a back protector if your suit doesn't already equipped. Most tracks also require "gauntlet" style gloves and race boots, and a decent helmet.

Rockwell Cycles Track Day at NYST

My goal is 10 track days this season... a weekend per month.

My buddy Jeff and I had been planning on racing Ducati Motorcycles at New York Safety Track for months now, having joined a race outfit called EvolveGT back on Black Friday last year, which gives discounts on track days.

RideHVMC Track Day during the Solar Eclipse at New York Safety Track

After the DESMO BBQ, a few Desmo and East Coast Duc members Glenn, Melissa, Michael and I were going to head up a few hours north to Harpersfield, to New York Safety Track, one of the favorite racetracks for speedy motorcyclists.

Tigho's First Track Day: If you look closely, you can see my raw determination, fear and unadulterated exhilaration.
So, after nearly four years of riding a Ducati in New York City, one of my friends finally got me out to the race track on my 996.  I'll tell the full story in a later post...
